Funerals
The death of a loved one is always a difficult time. If you are arranging a funeral, then we offer our sympathy and assure you that we will give you the best support that we can. You may find it helpful to look at the Church of England website here where there is a great deal of useful information and advice.
Funeral and Memorial Services
Anyone is able to ask a Church of England minister to take a funeral for someone they knew and loved. Neither the person who has died nor the person asking has to be a regular churchgoer to have a Church of England funeral, it is open to all. We are always willing to conduct funerals for anyone from within the Benefice who has died, or for those who have had a particular connection to our villages.
The clergy will be happy to talk through planning the service, which may take the form of a funeral, memorial or thanksgiving service. These can be small, quiet reflective ceremonies or a larger occasion and can be conducted in any of our churches or at a crematorium.
In the first instance, we suggest that you contact a local Funeral Director who will be able to make enquiries and arrangements on your behalf. The Funeral Director will then contact the clergy here, and one of us will visit you to discuss arrangements for the funeral.
Memorials
The introduction of memorials, to mark places of burial, are subject to Rules set by the Chancellor of the Diocese of Oxford. These rules seek to ensure that churchyards are both reverent and beautiful, and are kept wisely for future generations. The memorial stones need to be able to match their surroundings and can gradually weather with the passing of time. You can find a summary of the current regulations here. The Rector is always happy to offer guidance.
After the funeral
Following the loss of a loved one, we would want to offer you our caring support not just through the process of arranging the funeral but beyond, if you so wish. People who have lost someone close to them are often so busy with practical details and arrangements that it is only later when they experience a full sense of loss. Grieving is a normal and important part of coming to terms with this loss and may continue for some time. Our clergy are always willing to try to help.

What will the funeral cost?
The fees for funerals, burials and cremations are set by the Church of England nationally and are the same for every church. Your Funeral Director will advise you of the cost and deal with payment to the church on your behalf.
